HO trains are certainly the most popular size for model train enthusiasts but they do require more space than other smaller scale model trains.

If the space you have for your model train layout is limited you may find that using z scale model trains gives you greater flexibility in what you can do with your smaller area.

The scale categories of model trains signify how small they are in comparison to the life-sized trains they are replicating. For the Z scale model trains, the ratio is 1:220 – that is, the z scale model trains is 1/220th the size of a full sized train. This means that Z scale trains are the smallest of the model trains scales generally available to model train hobbyists. Because of their tiny size, they are interesting to work with and the smaller space required for the layout gives you many more options to enhance the surroundings for your model train system.
